Cri du Chat Syndrome, also known as Cat Cry Syndrome, Chromosome 5p- Syndrome, 5p Deletion Syndrome and Monosomy 5p, is a chromosomal conditions in the deletion of the small p arm on chromosome 5. Around 1 in 20,000 to 50,000 of infants are born the Cri du Chat Syndrome, and no prevention or treatment is available for those with the syndrome. Cri du Chat is most recognizable for the effect it has on the physical development on the face, (far spread eyes, low set ear, round faces, etc.) and high pitched whines that resemble those of a cat's. This syndrome is characterized as a intellectual disability with delayed development.
